Printing equipment: holding and conveying the substrate

Duty: screen, inkjet and pad printing machines commonly hold the substrate on the printing table or conveyor by vacuum, so that nothing moves while printing.

What the station needs: holding areas are large, so the flow demand is clearly higher than at a small pickup station. Porous stock leaks air, so the pump needs flow in reserve. Ink and solvent vapour is present in the room, and separating it ahead of the pump is not optional.

Configuration direction: work out the flow from holding area, substrate porosity and the permitted vacuum level; with porous stock, calculate from leakage rather than from the part area. Where the table is split into zones, give each zone its own valve.

Watch points: separate solvent and ink vapour by condensation or filtration before the pump; filter paper dust as well. When holding is zoned, keep branch bores and valve response consistent, or uneven holding force will show up as register error.

This page describes a selection method, not a specific project record.
