Vacuum packers and automated handling lines run fast cycles with many starts and modest gas volume per cycle. Size the pump on the volume of air to be removed per minute and the pressure required, then leave margin for losses across piping and valves.
These stations generally work at 40 to 90 kPa, a range where the oil-free rotary vane pump runs steadily and exhausts without oil mist — practical where the unit sits beside a packaging machine on the shop floor. When several stations share one pump, check each branch bore and valve response time, otherwise the station that opens first takes the flow.
For suction handling, calculate the flow from part weight, number of cups and cup area, and allow for leakage across rough surfaces.
