Where oil-free rotary vane vacuum pumps fit

An oil-free rotary vane pump uses no oil in the chamber. Sealing and compression come from the vanes running against the cylinder, so the exhaust carries no oil mist, and there is no oil to change or dispose of. That determines where these pumps fit.

Exhaust must be oil-free: in food, pharmaceutical, optical and electronics production, oil mist would contaminate product, stations and optical elements.

Clean running and low maintenance: with no oil circuit, routine work is limited to filters and wear parts, and there is no waste oil to manage.

Frequent starting and intermittent duty: on machine-mounted duty the pump starts and stops with the machine. Oil-sealed pumps in this pattern more often show oil mist and degraded oil.

Capacity in the small and mid range: holding and transfer, chamber roughing, packaging and printing hold-down all sit in the lower and middle part of the range, where an oil-free rotary vane pump can be applied directly.

The other side is worth stating as well. For processes needing a high vacuum, such as coating or evaporation stages, a rotary vane pump serves only as the backing pump and must work with a high-vacuum pump. Where the gas carries heavy dust, solvent vapour or corrosive constituents, filtration and condensation ahead of the pump are essential, together with a pump construction and materials suited to the duty.
